The Guest List and the Invitations
Do you have to sit down and make a new list of people to invite to your party for every new event? If you like to throw a lot of parties, then you need a master spreadsheet list. This master spreadsheet list is very simple to make and will become invaluable to you. Here are a few tips to creating your list:
- Make columns with first and last name, address, phone number, children’s names, e-mail addres and spouse’s name.
- Also add the columns “sent invitation” and “yes”. This makes it easy to see who you sent an invitation to and who has said they are coming.
- Whenever you meet someone new, add them to your master list.
- Do not remove names of people who have moved, because you can also use this master list for sending holiday cards, wedding invitations and baby announcements too.
This master list will become your best friend when it comes to planning a party. :)
The Invitations
I will go more into depth about individual invitations when I cover different themes. For now, let’s just cover the basics of a what a good invitation should consists of.
Here is what your invitations should include (not all will apply to every party):
- Purpose of the Party (50th birthday, Sweet 16, Anniversary, Casual Dinner Party, etc.)
- Name of the honored guests, if there is one
- Host Name
- Date of the party
- Time of the party
- Location of the party with a small map included (this is not always necessary)
- What to bring
- What to wear or how to dress
- The party’s theme
- What type of food will be served (lunch, supper, cake and ice cream)
- Your telephone number and email address
I will go into the types of invitations like for formal dinners, birthday parties, office parties, etc later. I will also cover where to buy invitations and give you some ideas on how to make them yourself. Invitations are one of my favorite subjects!
